Wow! My statement about the use of Beef, Pork and Brocoli has caused a bit of a storm, some owners are concerned about their dogs health after they heard me say Dogs can't digest Beef Pork and Brocoli is toxic. Others want me to scientifically prove the statement others were I did my research, quite a few said its about time somebody mentioned toxic food.
Reply: The full version without the edit "Dogs don't digest Beef and Pork as well as chicken turkey or lamb" "Don't feed brocoli especially in large amounts for some dogs its toxic"
Fact: Beef and Pork are meat proteins that are not ideal for pets as it is harder to digest and utilise than other meats such as chicken and lamb, and it can also cause dietary intolerances and allergies. Mixing them with an already complete excessively high protein, Additive fuelled colourant fuelled diet will do nothing for your dogs long term health.
Broccoli contains isothiocyanate which is considered a gastrointestinal irritant, when fed in large amounts, over 10% in the daily diet, most dogs are unaffected when its in small amounts.
Someone said "Mic Martin is a dog trainer so I wouldn't expect him to understand diet"
I studied nutrition as part of a course for over 12 months. Ask your vet how long he/she did, unless he/she did more studying off his/her own back 1 day in 5 years of study, I have changed the diets of probably 95% of the DB dogs which is why they are a lot calmer when they do the house visit. And yes I understand and actually use the barf diet, and have mentioned it many times. On DB we all do at least 1-2 hours just on diet to the clients.
And Finally: I wouldn't be worried about the Beef Pork or the brocoli, the car engine oil, wood shavings, roots, stalks, Alura red, sunset yellow, tartrazine, BHT BHA and ethoxyquin will probably make it all alright. MM
